The Colin Miles Pelham is a great schooling bit with a 55mm center piece creating greater tongue pressure and reducing bar pressure. The rings give the horse something to play with and help keep the horses attention on the bit.
The Pelham 55 has attachments for two reins, one near the mouthpiece and one at the end of the shank.
This particular joint exerts more pressure than the Control Plate or Elliptical.
Additionally, the blue sweet iron mouthpiece encourages salivation, softening and acceptance of the bit. This is because it oxidises easily, creating a warm, sweet taste in the horse’s mouth. As a result, the double joint means the mouthpiece follows the contours of the horse’s mouth, which reduces the ‘nutcracker’ action associated with single jointed bits, and resultant bar and palate pressure.
